In the sermon entitled, "Beware of The Angry Watchmen," Carter Conlon preaches away the true burden of the Lord to backslidden, lukewarm Christianity. Without shame he speaks against those prophets that would seek to preach anything to the adulterous bride of Christ, desiring to know how to return to her bride-groom, but mercy. Even stating at one point that these "false prophets" dare not speak anything to the bride of Christ if they are not calling her to a banquet table of God's love. Though our hearts may initially agree with such bold, seemingly loving statements, nevertheless, what saith the scripture?
In the New Testament, James, under inspiration, clearly and emphatically declares, "Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God... Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness" (Jas. 4:4,8,9). James does not say, merely, "just have mercy", but preaches the burden of the Lord. He does not merely point their attention to the imputed righteousness of Christ as though there was no actual sin to be cleansed, purged, or cleared of (viz. Psa. 51:7; II Cor. 7:11; Jas. 4:8). When the word of God (from first to last) proves the opposite.
I am persuaded that God's great controversy with this man is, in part, for his unashamed stance against the truth which any sincere man would clearly see as he pursues my burden (which I am convinced is the burden of God) to its end. Suffer with me though my burden be long, and pray God to open your ears to hear, if, indeed, God's Spirit is speaking in this hour.
God's people across this country, yea, across this world, are being destroyed for lack of the true knowledge of God and his ways. May God open your ears, my dear reader, and grant that the light contained in this brief burden may enter into the darkened regions of your heart and restore the keys of understanding that have been so stripped from this generation! May God have mercy!
"Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD. They say still unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you. For who hath stood in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it?.. If they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings" (Jer. 23:16-18,22).
